The aim of the project is to strengthen the society’s trust in democracy and to demonstrate the access to justice and the opportunities for the society to influence the policy making by participating in the high-level EU institution processes. With the help of EU processes, we aim at achieving the evaluation and improvement of the existing Latvia’s regulatory framework in order to ensure effective protection of the protected species of EU and Latvian importance Lesser Spotted Eagle (Aquila pomarina) and other specially protected disperse nesting bird species. The aim of the project is to prepare and submit a complaint to the European Commission regarding an incomplete fulfillment of Latvia's obligations towards protection of disperse-nesting bird species including Lesser Spotted Eagle, listed in the Annex I of Directive 2009/147/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 30 November 2009 on the conservation of wild birds. As a result of a successful implementation of the project, we will promote an active involvement of the society (Latvian Fund for Nature as an environmental non-governmental organization) in the development of an effective nature protection regulatory framework in Latvia, improve public awareness on the participation processes and access to justice on EU level and its trust in judiciary.
