The project’s goal is to promote civic understanding and awareness of the role and importance of the participation of the people of South Latgale in the development of a democratic state.

In order to achieve this goal three South Latgale’s Partnerships – Daugavpils and Ilukste regions’ Partnership “Neighbors”, Kraslava’s region Partnership and Preili region Partnership have gathered resources together and worked out “South Latgale Democratic Culture and Human rights contributing strategy plan 2020-2026” (SDCH strategy plan) with strategic aim to empower active citizens (society), to make attractive rural territories and strengthen creative and professional possibilities for each inhabitant of these Partnership territories.

Project is based on partnerships’ experience working with local people and associations as well as entrepreneurs and municipalities and possibility to create environment to encourage local people involvement in civil society activities and increase quality of life for themselves and their families, to develop an understanding of decision-making and the results of participation. In this way - by increasing the low civic participation in the territory of South Latgale, reducing distrust of one's ability to influence democratic processes and the lack of civic education.

The project will promote the participants` understanding of decision-making processes and transparency, implement civic activities throughout the territory of South Latgale, as well as increase the number of residents participating consultations or working groups of local long-term development documents. 

Cooperation with donor countries: the project is being implemented in cooperation with the Norwegian organization "Henric Johansson Consult".
